T
his sef-titled cd is the first release by Mark Spybey (Dead Voices On Air, SPASM, Propeller, Download, Zoviet-France) and Jean-Yves Theriault (HolyBodyTattoo, Voivod). It features 8 tracks (70 minutes) of music blending Spybey's organic sounds made entirely from toys, stringed instruments and processed vocals with Theriault's samples, noises and beats.

Mark Spybey is an ambient musician from England who currently lives in Vancouver, Canada. His recordings have gained critial acclaim under the name Dead Voices On Air. In the late eighties he was a member of Zoviet-France. He was a founding member of Download. He also works under the name Propeller and is a member of SPASM, along with four other artists from Invisible Records, including Martin Atkins of P.I.L. and Pigface. Current collaborators include Jarboe of Swans, Mick Harris of Scorn,Painkiller, Eric Pounder formerly of Lab Report and Dustin Donaldson formerly of Thought Industry and Pansy Division.

Jean-Yves Theriault is a composer and producer originally from Montreal, Canada but currently living in Vancouver. He was a founding member of Voivod. He co-founded and writes scores for the internationally recognized dance company Holy Body Tattoo. He has released two albums under that name, featuring compositions used in performances as well as touring Canada and Europe. He is a webmaster and web page designer. In addition to engineering and producing the :spybey:theriault: cd, he also produced Spybey's debut Propeller album.

:spybey:theriault: was recorded in Vancouver. It takes ideas common to Spybey's work (rough loops of sound made by bizarre instruments, fourth world chanting, stabs of discordant noise, drifting-uneasy drones) and creates pieces glued together with Theriault's sampling and production skills.

Mark Spybey... "I've admired the many shapes of techno music for many years and have been excited by it's development. But.. and it's a big but, I long for something interesting to happen on top of the beats. I think this album manages to fuse together components of techno, isolationist (call it what you will) and fourth world musics. It, as ever, was unintentional. Most of my contributions were direct improvisations. Jean-Yves provided much of the structure."

All copies of this, the first release for ICHOR Recordings, come in a hand made canvas pouch with original artwork.
